Partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital

The Pediatric Physicians’ Organization at Children’s is the primary care network of providers affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital—hence our name! In our 20 years, the PPOC has cultivated a close collaborative relationship with the premier children’s hospital in the United States. Our provider members benefit greatly from this partnership, consulting regularly with subspecialists at the forefront of their pediatric specialty and getting priority referrals to care. PPOC providers are given access to Clinical Advice Lines, which offer direct access to many departments in the hospital for direct consultation with a subspecialist on call. This connection affords our patients the care and convenience of a local community pediatrician with the addition of increased access to the Boston Children’s Hospital network.

PPOC providers work on the development of clinical programs and protocols to improve the delivery of care to children across the continuum of hospital, specialty, and primary care sites. Most recently, through a grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, the Adolescent Substance Use and Addiction Program at BCH partnered with the PPOC, creating a new multidisciplinary model to place specially trained clinical social workers into the primary care office to work alongside medical staff to provide evaluation and intervention services to curtail substance use in teens. The program, which was successful in one Cape Cod practice, has been further funded by a SAMHSA grant to expand to 20-25 more practices by 2023, addressing all forms of substance use in children in the primary care setting where adolescents and teens are more comfortable.

The PPOC, along with Boston Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Physicians’ Organization, is a member of the Children’s Hospital Integrated Care Organization (CHICO), which negotiates health plan contracts on behalf of all three groups.

Our partner Boston Children's Hospital continues to be ranked # 1 in the United States for pediatric care.

The commitment and compassion with which we care for all children and families is matched only by the pioneering spirit of discovery and innovation that drives us to think differently, to find answers, and to build a better tomorrow for children everywhere.
